On the first day of the session, President Draupadi Murmu will address both chambers, laying the groundwork for important budgetary pronouncements.

A substantial legislative revamp is not expected, but doubling the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative for women farmers might be a game-changer.

According to Reuters news agency, the government is thinking of increasing the yearly compensation given to female landowner farmers by double to Rs 12,000 in recent days.

According to sources cited in the news agency’s story, the scheme might cost the government an extra Rs 12,000 crore and is expected to be disclosed in the budget on February 1.

Since the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for two or three months from now, this year’s budget would be an interim one instead of a complete one like in prior years. When there isn’t enough time for a complete budget, especially during an election year, the governing government proposes the interim budget to parliament. After the elections, the newly elected administration will be in charge of creating the whole yearly budget.

Instead of a thorough Economic Survey as in previous years, a brief report on the status of the Indian economy is anticipated to be delivered for 2024–25 prior to the interim budget on February 1.
