In Punjab, the price of diesel has increased by 48 paise and that of gasoline by 51 paise. The cost of gasoline and diesel has somewhat increased in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Goa as well. In Maharashtra, the price of diesel has decreased by 12 paise and that of gasoline by 11 paise. The cost of gasoline and diesel has decreased in both Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.</p>
<p>Right now, a liter of petrol costs Rs 96.72 in Delhi, while a liter of diesel costs Rs 89.62. In contrast, a liter of diesel costs Rs 94.27 and a liter of petrol costs Rs 106.31 in Mumbai. In Kolkata, a liter of petrol costs Rs 106.03, while a liter of diesel costs Rs 92.76. However, in Chennai, a liter of diesel is sold for Rs 94.24, and a gallon of petrol for Rs 102.63.</p>
<p>The pricing of gasoline and diesel in India is set by oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. This is done every day, and rates are set based on the global price of crude oil.</p>
<p><strong>Why do gas prices differ across states?</strong></p>
<p>Every day at six in the morning, the rates are released, whether they are new or not. However, they differ from one state to the next because of factors like local taxes, freight costs, value-added tax (VAT), etc.</p>

<p>Additionally, you may use SMS to find out the daily prices for gasoline and diesel. Customers of BPCL may get information by sending an SMS to 9223112222 with RSP and their city code, while customers of Indian Oil can receive information by texting RSP and their city code to 9224992249. On the other hand, HPCL customers may get the price by texting 9222201122 with HPPrice and their city code.</p>
