Rajkumar Hirani Says “Business Is Affected” After Breaking His Silence on the Dunki and Salaar Box Office Clash

Regarding the competition at the box office between his most recent picture, Dunki, and Salaar, starring Prabhas, director Rajkumar Hirani has spoken out. December 21 saw the release of Dunki, and the next day saw the release of Salaar. Dunki’s first-day revenue of barely Rs 30 crore was achieved. On the other hand, Salaar broke many records to become the largest opening of 2023. On its first day of release in India, the movie took in Rs 95 crore in all languages.

Regarding the same, Hirani said to DNA, “From the standpoint of a producer, the number of theaters in the nation is restricted.” It’s possible that some viewers won’t have enough cash to see two movies in a row or on different days. Some individuals decide to just watch one movie in a given week or even month. Thus, I’m sure it influences both movies in some way.

According to Hirani, there are situations when a conflict is unavoidable because of the calendar’s constraints. “Business is impacted by a conflict. But because there are 200 films produced every 52 weeks, there is no way to opt out of it. Conflicts would arise. Larger and smaller films might sometimes conflict. These kinds of events will all keep occurring. From then, there is no way out,” the director said.

Prior to this, Hirani said in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha that Shah Rukh was aware that Dunki would not make as much money as his former actors Jawan and Pathaan did.

After starring in two consecutive action movies, Shah Rukh was excited about Dunki. He was pleased to be working in this manner. Being a wise guy, Shah Rukh knew that audiences were preferring action movies and following a trend. He had always advised me not to anticipate enormous box office receipts at first. He was aware that it would take time for the film to get traction and that families and viewers would ultimately become interested. He was the one prepping me more than anybody else, and that’s precisely what happened. The director had informed us that he had seen several families gathering in cinemas to watch the movie.
